Qualia: The School for Deeper Learning is a new private school in Calabasas, opening this fall on a 2-acre campus near Las Virgenes and the 101 Freeway. Qualia’s groundbreaking model, based on 14 years as a leader in next-generation education, combines passion-driven, student-centered learning with an enticingly rich college preparatory curriculum. At Qualia, high-capacity, high-curiosity kids chart unique paths based on a deep love of knowledge and ideas. An intentional community as well as a school, Qualia is a model and incubator for a world based on authentic dialogue, joyful inquiry, and extraordinary vision. 

Currently serving grades 6-12, the school’s discussion-based seminars, boasting an average class size of just six, allow passionate learners to ask deep questions embedded in provocative dialogue. Qualia’s students forge individual learning paths while enjoying close interaction with the school’s best-in-class faculty.

The school inherits the highly regarded Areté Learning Model, honed through 14 years of leading-edge teaching on the Westside. Under this model, 95% of graduates were admitted to their first-choice colleges. Building on that foundation, Qualia will offer new programs in game-based learning and individualized exploration, together with a reinvigorated commitment to democratic, student-focused decision making and governance.
