Student Life
Students enjoy ping pong and the lunchtime commons area-turned-game room. Curious minds engage in Socratic discussions and debate, taking on current topics and new frontiers of the mind – in their free time, just for fun.
Clubs: Students come together to create clubs and explore passions. Current and past clubs include: Feminist Club, Political Club, Cheese Tasting, Virtual Book Club, Tutoring Club.
Annual All-School Trip: Bonding, learning, exploring and fun happen on our annual fall adventure trip to Santa Cruz Island.
Summer International Travel: Students embark upon annual, teacher-led excursions to faraway lands to enjoy new cultures, languages and more. Japan, France and Spain are favorite destinations.
Team Qualia
Our students participate in a variety of competitions…
Qualia hosted an international, virtual Model U.N. on May 23 & 24, 2020, joining a roster of teams from L.A. to Kazakhstan!
Students analyze real and hypothetical ethical cases, identify underlying ethical principles, and respond to questions from opposing teams and judges. Judges include academics and leaders in ethics, philosophy, law, and business. Top achievements by the Qualia Ethics Bowl team include: First Place at the November 2015 Southern California Regional Championships (defeating Harvard Westlake, Wildwood, and Glendora) and Third Place at the National Championships (falling behind only Waterford and Philips Exeter).
As part of the FIRST Tech Challenge, our robotics aficionados compete head to head in alliance format against other top SoCal schools, designing, building and programming a robot.
Our new team competed in its first-ever HGT hydrogen-powered fuel-cell car engineering challenge, building a vehicle and racing it in a qualifying round against other local teen engineers, including the 2019 World Champions.
With a bold, beautiful, and chill spirit and a semi-fast speed, this team is easy to spot in hot pink jerseys as they compete against other Los Angeles distance runners.
